Charleston Artist Guild Gallery | Faye Sullivan and Susanne Frenzel

The Charleston Artist Guild Gallery is excited to present This is Us, a collection of works by featured artists Faye Sullivan and Susanne Frenzel. Faye’s collection of oil paintings reflects the beauty of the lowcountry’s coast. Susanne’s paintings are abstract using several techniques and media. The exhibit will run from November 1 through November 30 with an opening reception on Friday, November 2 from 5-8 PM.

Faye Sullivan is a former art instructor and graduate of the University of East Carolina with a B.A. and Master’s Degree in Art.  Faye moved to the lowcountry from Massachusetts fifteen years ago and was inspired by the beauty that surrounded her and decided her focus as an artist should be seascapes and marsh scenes.  Water seemed all important in both themes, therefore she chose to make water her main concentration. Faye states “Water is the ultimate chameleon - water reflects the clouds, time of day, wind, sky, and all the many things which surround it. It is this reflective quality which is very helpful in repeating colors to unify the scene”. Faye’s goal is to create beauty through soft edges and hopefully set a mood of peacefulness and solitude. She believes it is this softness that makes her work easily recognizable.

Susanne Frenzel (Suzel) was born in Germany and received a B.A./ M.A. from the University of Dortmund and a M.A. from the University of Kaiserslautern. She worked, lived and traveled through Europe until she moved to the United States in 1990. Living in different parts of the world has significantly influenced Susanne’s work. Besides teaching art workshops, she is also a German Professor at The Citadel, The Military College of SC. One of Susanne’s passions is experimenting with various techniques, media and multiple textures. She follows spontaneous perceptions and inspirations to create her abstract paintings and to catch the viewer’s eye.  Her award winning art has been shown nationally and internationally and been juried into local, state and international shows.

Please join us for the opening reception, which is open to the public, on Friday, Novermber 2, 2018, at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery from 5-8 pm. The gallery, located at 160 East Bay Street, is open daily from 11-6pm. Sales made at the gallery support the nonprofit Guild’s community outreach work.
