MEYER VOGL GALLERY

Second Course: New Works by Laurie Meyer

Friday, May 4, 2018
5:00 PM  8:00 PM

Think of the energy of a restaurant kitchen — it’s beautiful dance of organized chaos and passion. Artist Laurie Meyer is emboldened and excited by that energy, and for her upcoming solo exhibition, she's bringing it to the canvas with a series of kitchen-inspired paintings.

“By selecting a kitchen scene for a painting, I am assured a figurative piece full of gesture and energy,” Meyer says. “The glow of the warm lights and the neutrals of the stainless steel offer incredible colors as well.”

“I love a traditional chef in white with warm lights, surrounded by the coolness of the restaurant kitchen interior. There are many stories implied by the interior of a restaurant!”

Works include the interiors of Charleston restaurants, memories from recent travels abroad, as well as scenes from her own kitchen.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 4, from 5 to 8pm, coinciding with the Charleston Gallery Association Art Walk. The exhibition runs from May 4 to 31.
