Miller Gallery invites you to enter an immersive installation by Charleston artist, Marina Dunbar. Her recent body of work, consisting of over forty paintings and sculptures, explores the harmony between spontaneity and control through her use of color, movement, shadow and space.
Marina’s process involves manipulating the surface of each piece with heat, wind, and gravity, granting the works a sculptural quality. The practice is both hypnotic and uncertain. Because fluid media is sensitive to its environment, a deep breath, a slight shift of focus, a sound in the distance can all cause the paint to sway from the pre-determined path.
Embracing the spontaneity of both her process and our natural environment, Marina’s paintings continue to reference organic forms while departing from their literal representations. They pursue a desire to capture an intrinsic harmony in a way that is refreshingly unpredictable.
Join us at Miller Gallery on September 7th from 6-8pm.
