Upcoming Exhibit: “Time and Shine” with Simon Kenevan
Opening Reception: Friday, December 3rd 5-8pm
Painting Live in the Gallery: Saturday, December 4th 1-4pm
The John C. Doyle Art Gallery is thrilled to represent internationally renowned seascape artist Simon Kenevan. His amazing ability to move the viewer with his timeless sunrises and sunsets is only one side of his epic talent. Simon only paints from photos he takes himself, and in addition to his ocean scenes, he also captures the brackish sparkle of the surrounding barrier islands and marshes of the Charleston area with seemingly effortless skill.
With over 25 years of experience, Simon has found his vocabulary via pigment, paper, brush, and canvas. While working with pastels and oils, precious moments are relived through the creative process. Each subsequent painting has its own resonance, unique to each and every viewer.
Simon grew up on the southeastern coast of England, and he found out early that his love of coastal beauty was a part of him that would be engrained for a lifetime. Although he has painted seascapes all over the world, there is a special place in his heart for Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.
“Whenever I am exploring, painting, or simply being in the salty places around Charleston, I am always aware of the sense of boundless time. The ebb and flow of tide marking the cycle of time. And the history! No other tidal landscape exudes such a presence of history, only the spectacular Lowcountry.” ~Simon Kenevan
We will be having a special exhibition for Simon in December, and he will be joining us for the CGA First Friday Art Walk, December 3rd from 5-8pm.
